Mashiro vs Suetsugi

Watch as the moé blobs grind their teeth to intimidate their foe and signal their intent. In this display of ferocity, we are witnessing the ritual of rivalry between such endearing creatures. A maelstrom churns.

More and more I have come to adore Suetsugi Konoha. Most of it is probably Fujita Saki. I’m starting to hear a little bit of Inami Mahiru from WORKING!!, but I suppose at this point Fujita-san wasn’t necessarily asked to provide more than a high school girl’s voice. It’s also quite obvious that Mashiro’s voice is so hammed up. At least it better be, otherwise I’m not trusting my ears again when it comes to listening to seiyuu. I can’t imagine her seiyuu’s voice sounding so naturally squishy and pomfy.

It’s also quite the surprise to see a side character having a rather prominent role in pushing the plot forward. Normally, the opening sequence would have spoiled most elements, which is the primary reason I skip it. It’s simply too easy to decipher. Speaking of which, I decided to watch three episodes of Gundam Build Fighters, and holy shit that was so prepackaged and uninteresting. Stay away from watching the OP at all if you don’t want to spoil the first twenty episodes to yourself. Maybe it’s just my bias showing again. I need to remind myself sometimes that not all anime is geared towards people like me. But at the same time, I can still watch a shonen series like Hunter x Hunter. Maybe it’s mecha I don’t like anymore.

Wait. Why am I talking about mecha?

Suetsugi as the current plot technician doesn’t feel too cliché, despite invoking said cliché. Things have been progressing on the established couple — Kobeni and Hakuya — too far to make Suetsugi a decent love interest. Is she going to become a wrench in the metalworks, or simply provide a pragmatic perspective on marriage? Either way.. I want doujins of her.

None of the fair maidens in this show are quite ‘my waifu’ material to me. I would say Benio, but she’s kinda crazy. I say Benio is crazy, but I often have the exact reaction she does to romance-comedy situations. Sometimes such corny and vanilla love elements really do incapacitate my ability to think rationally.

This show. THIS SHOW.

It’s like A-1 Pictures are the guys to go to for producing job themed anime. Ever since they did Working!!, I was hoping they’d do more of these sitcoms. They’re surprisingly similar to the regular sitcoms that are produced right here in United States. At least the ones that are focused on comedy rather than drama. The opening sequence was also quite a thing. It was immediately attention grabbing, that’s for sure. The only other thing left needed to have me biting at the fringes of this delectable episode was the presence of interesting seiyuu.

I managed to identify several seiyuu off the bat. The three easily identifiable were Sakurai Takahiro, Toyosaki Aki, and Nakahara Mai. And then I sort of knew Kayano Ai and Suzuki Tatsuhisa. I managed to identify his voice from Bakatest as Yuuji, but the actual voice he’s using is miles different. Guess I picked up on that nasal voice quality he seems to have. Kayano Ai’s range and voice separation is pretty good, so unless you’ve watched her in several shows (Rinne no Lagrange, anohana, Ben-to, Senyuu, Oreshura), you’ll have a hard time doing single episode identification.

And to finish this entry off, I’d like to fag it up, and bust a nutbladder over the fact that Nakahara Mai is Mihoshi. It’s so perfect. But at the same time… I’m imagining her character as Hakurei Reimu because of the MAIKAZE doujin anime adaptation of Touhou. Which brings me to another thought about Touhou. It really would seem like A-1 Pictures would be the studio to do a Touhou adaptation. They’re pretty good at this animation production thing, you know.

I’m not going to link to all of the anime and seiyuu I’ve mentioned. However, I will link you to Nakahara Mai because frankly, she’s a monster. Once you see who she’s voiced, you’ll understand me.

Oh, right. Happy 4th of July, residents of the United States. Enjoy the fooding!

Hataraku Chuunibyou-sama!

This show’s setup is a perfect lead-in as a perfectly hidden second season of Chuunibyou. Think about it. We’ve got several characters escaping into our modern world through a gate. They have to adapt to society. So far, it looks like our beloved Maou-sama is living the life as a professional MgRonald attendant. If it weren’t for the flashy high fantasy and combat introductory segment, it would just be an adult version of Chuunibyou. That also would have been highly enjoyable.

Because of the thematic focus of fantasy character types being employed in the modern workforce, it is also reminding me of Working!!. Several shots display the environment that Maou-san is working in, which invariably results in the camera being in the break room. Chi-chan conveniently is a small-framed and busty co-worker. If she had a ponytail, she would’ve been another Poplar-chan. Ah, I want another season of Working!!. Then there’s even the idea that a Demon Lord is having to slog through human politics and environments which immediately reminds me of Maoyuu Mao Yuusha. Even more important: it’s not set in a high school! FUCK YEAH! Dear god. I understand why there’s plenty of anime with high school heroes or middle school meddlers. But I’m hungry for college comrades.

What a lovely present, honestly. I didn’t expect to have three previous shows rolled into one. I’ve also noticed that I’m getting a lot better at detecting Hikasa Yoko. I expect to hear interesting vocal work from her character, Yusa Emi.

Last season felt particularly weak, but I think I’m going to suffer several nutbladder attacks this Spring of 2013.

As usual, I forget to name the show anywhere in the main body of text. Hataraku Maou-sama is a brand new anime that premiered last week. Just for that rare person who visited my site first before they saw any other information about the show elsewhere. I salute whomever may be that person. If you’re a hawt loli girl, I’ll buy you a lunch. (We know that’s not happening.)

A Working!! Announcement. (wa ha ha)

Working!! season two was properly announced after the fake trailer with two characters dressed like Wagnaria waiters, voiced by Yuuichi Nakamura and another seiyuu who I didn’t initially recognize as Haruka Tomatsu. Sounded more like Yuki Matsuoka’s Tsuruya voice to me for a couple of seconds, but a Tomatsu is fine, too. (I’m more into Yamada if you haven’t already noticed.) I put it in the same boat as the movie Waiting because they both have the “working at a restaurant” backdrop. And anyone who has a job that has direct contact with its customers knows that it gets ugly more often than one would like.. which is a rather apt image of the interaction between people on the internet. There’s also a huge difference between Working!! and Waiting: One is purely about character interaction and the other is about motivation.

Interestingly enough, even this show has its share of comments calling it vapid. People are extremely stubborn about the hatin’. I’m tempted to quote an internet meme right here and just let things slide into a void, but instead I’ll just admit I’m curious about the hate. Seriously, what’s up with that? I’d understand it if it turned out like the explosion of riff-raff that Suzumiya Haruhi spawned, but Working!! barely had the audience size to warrant such faggotry. Perhaps Working!! unfortunately wandered in when the season was flooded with settings and themes that didn’t involve srs bsns, table-flip inducing scenes, or robots, resulting in the show being targeted by residue rage. I can only guess.

Such faggotry will not hamper my enthusiasm for Yamada. Yamada for life.

2010 Spring Anime Season

I actually had a large post ready to be uploaded, but I realized I was just typing for the sake of getting some kind of article up that was supposed to sound professional.

After a single proofread, I deleted it.

Instead, here’s a series of short sentences that describe the current anime season from the narrow viewpoint of yours truly.

K-ON! Season 2 is Kyoto Animation giving us our weekly moe blob injections. Ichiban Ushiro no Dai Maou is the sequel to Seitokai no Ichizon. Working!! is for people who either like minimal story settings or have worked in the service industry. Kaichou wa Meido-sama is our seasonal JC Staff production with lovely watercolor/pastel background scenery porn. Angel Beats has the OP with a girl playing a piano. Heroman takes place in California. B Gata H Kei has Yukari Tamura. Ookiku Furikabutte is a baseball sports anime with a competent animation team. I don’t care about Major (another baseball series). Arakawa Under the Bridge is done by SHAFT. Mayoi Neko Overrun is love, since it has loli and zettai ryouiki. House of Five Leaves is a bakery and samurai talk boxes without any actual cooking. Kiss X Sis is for perverts. Senkou no Night Raid replaced Sora no Woto.

And I think Da Capo is happening again. (Yay!)
