And it is good. Good in the good-bad sense that, it’s really nothing anything else than a show that’s absurd no matter how you spin it. The show doesn’t seem to be taking itself that seriously. So you shouldn’t either. At first, I thought they were going to have the main character become a trap. But instead, they’re pulling a Kämpfer on us all. However, the atmosphere is decidedly more sentai and silly, two qualities that were missing from Kämpfer. Instead of making me groan every five seconds, I was mildly enjoying the show.
Should you watch it? Probably not. If you don’t care about finding bad anime, then you’ll probably be able to stomach a few episodes. I really can’t avoid this show anymore if the MC is going to transform into a twintailed loli. That’s okay with me.
Everyone should totally call it I Am Become Twintails. Because otherwise it sounds less interesting, and no more Oppenheimer/Bhagavad Gita reminders for me.
Imagine the joy I had when the VA for the Strawberry Twin background character was Kugimiya Rie. It’s almost as if she was asked in person to be involved with the show somehow, no matter how little the contribution. Totally called it.
I can’t believe how badly I want “Ore, Twintail ni Narimasu/俺、ツインテールになります” to be translated as I Am Become Twintails. The chance to directly make a referential stab at the Bhagavad Gita/Oppenheimer connection via some wacky gender-bender anime adaptation would be the best in the world. It seriously is a thing that’s in my brain that I wish to happen. It’s probably not going to happen. I suppose it’s just as fantastical as the anime I’m already talking about. I’m not going to call it anything else. Even if the official name is something different.
Truly though. I Am Become Twintails. It might sound grandiose, but it reflects the fact that in the Japanese title, it utilizes a comma to separate the preceding word 俺 (ore). I think it’s a heck of a lot better than I Will Become a Twintail.
As for what the show will entail, I’m assuming the mediocre. Some would say that it’s the obvious and worst-case scenario that would develop. It’s yet another instance of whether or not should we take it that seriously. Having a masterpiece of storytelling out of such a weak premise of super powered sentai twin-tailed heroines versus monsters is unlikely. Can’t be that much worse than Kämpfer, can it? Natsuru was — and still is — one of the most annoyingly written characters I’ve had the displeasure of experiencing. They’d have to try really hard to make the male protagonist worse than Natsuru.
.. Seriously though, start bugging everyone that it’s I Am Become Twintails. Best name.
Details regarding the show are limited. It’s only been announced a couple of months ago, and no sight of a seiyuu list, as far as I’m aware. It’s already got some promo stuff floating around which makes it seem like it’s coming this year. I’m quite early with this sort of post, so it should be now apparent how strongly I feel about how stupidly awesome this show sounds.
I am going to be incredibly disappointed if Kugimiya Rie doesn’t have a part in this show. I don’t care if it’s as some background character 2 second bit where she complains about the taste of a crepe while wolfing it down.
